A specialist mechanical brush is inserted into each of the ducts to gently dislodges dust, debris, and the fine particles that naturally build up over years of use. At the same time, a high-powered extraction unit sucks everything out, removing the hidden build up that affects airflow and air quality from inside the ducting.

Following the duct clean,  we move on to sanitising the ductwork.  A safe, NHS grade, antibacterial fine mist is applied inside the ducting which neutralises bacteria, spores, and allergens. It leaves the internal duct surfaces clean, fresh, and hygienic without leaving residue or scent, helping improve the quality of the air travelling through the ductwork to your home.

After duct cleaning and sanitisation, a full system service is completed including cleaning of internal motors, heat exchanger, replacing filters (where applicable), air valves and a full airflow test and rebalance. This ensures your MVHR or MEV system is working as intended within the home.

What is MVHR duct cleaning?

MVHR duct cleaning is the professional cleaning of the ductwork, air valves and associated components in a Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR) system. In UK homes, dust, construction debris and everyday pollutants can build up inside ducts over time, affecting airflow and indoor air quality.

Do MVHR systems in UK homes need duct cleaning?

Yes, it is recommended every 5 years.  Although MVHR systems use filters, these do not prevent all dust and fine particles entering the ductwork. As the system runs 24/7 moving air in and out of the property, ducts become coated and blocked with dust, debris, grease and many airborne particles.  Periodic duct cleaning helps maintain performance and air quality.

For a typical 2 bedroom apartment/house allow a total of 3 hours. Larger properties or more complex systems may take longer.

Do I need to leave my house during MVHR duct cleaning?

Yes, we ask occupants to leave the property for approximately 30 minutes while the anti-bacterial misting is applied and the ventilation system completes a full air change.

The misting process introduces a fine, professionally approved anti-bacterial treatment into the ventilation system to sanitise internal surfaces. Although the product is safe when used correctly, vacating the property during application ensures the process is completed cleanly, safely, and effectively, with no unnecessary exposure.
